How to Integrate Your Native Mobile App with Facebook Open Graph

Facebook Open Graph brings social context and social discovery to apps. Apps that integrate with Open Graph benefit both users and developers. Users can easily share their experiences with their friends on their Facebook timelines and developers enjoy increased exposure to the larger community of Facebook users. It’s a virtuous cycle.

Open Graph enabled apps are known to increase the level of engagement from users, and by integrating with Open Graph, developers can collect detailed insights into the usage of their app. One of the apps built using Open Graph, Goodreads, saw its number of active users increase by more than 77% after integrating with Open Graph.

Facebook Open Graph works well for web apps that serve data into Open Graph via web endpoints when they publish new actions to users’ timelines. The resulting dependency on web endpoints, however, breaks down with native iOS and Android apps where the primary form of access and experience is solely on a mobile device with no web accessible backend. Facebook’s dependency on web backends creates a significant “missing link” that prevents the vast and increasing amounts of user activity happening via native mobile apps from making its way into Open Graph.

Kinvey is the missing link.

With Kinvey’s solution, a native iOS or Android app built on Kinvey can easily publish to users’ timelines via Open Graph while using the same native backend on Kinvey for serving requests from the fronted running on the mobile device. Kinvey will automatically create and serve the web endpoints that are mandated by Facebook to publish into Open Graph.

If you are starting to build a new app, build it on Kinvey. If you already have a native app, bring it to Kinvey. In either case, we make it possible for your app to work instantly with Facebook Open Graph.
